Abstract
The enrichment of language has always been sought and continues to be pursued by poets, prose writers, and authors. Through them, the Albanian language is not only enriched with new words but has also become a language of culture and science. The analysis of Ismail Kadare's works thus far has primarily focused on literary, stylistic, and aesthetic interpretations, while the linguistic approach to his novels has remained largely untouched and unstudied as a whole. Particularly notable is Kadare's mastery in the use of idiomatic expressions in language. This study explores the phraseological expressions found in Ismail Kadare's novel Chronicle in Stone, focusing on their syntactic functions and stylistic significance.
These units, idiomatic expressions, taken from the novel Chronicle in Stone, are illustrated in practical examples. The idiomatic expressions have been studied in terms of structure (morphological), syntax, and semantics, with particular emphasis on the syntactic aspect. By analyzing the syntactic roles of these expressions, such as verbal phrases, idiomatic constructions, and sentence structures, we aim to reveal how they contribute to character development, thematic depth, and the overall texture of the narrative. The findings indicate that Kadare’s use of idioms serves not only artistic purposes but also reflects the cultural and social intricacies of Albanian society.
