Abstract

Prepositions are service words that are very important when expressing meanings and relationships between the members of the sentence and their parts.Prepositions usually stand before/next to a noun or pronoun, whose case is determined by the value/valence of the preposition. If the preposition allows more than one case, something that is characteristic in the German language, a case transfer occurs from the verb through the preposition to the noun or pronoun. The preposition can also appear before an adjective and an adverb, as well as before another preposition. This means that as satellites of a preposition it can be a noun phrase (für meinen Freund ’për shokun tim‘), a pronoun phrase (für mich ’për mua‘), an adjective phrase (etwas für notwenig halten ’diçka konsideroj si të domosdoshme‘), an adverbial phrase (von dort ’prej atje‘) or a prepositional phrase (bis vor das Haus gehen ’shkon deri para shtëpisë‘). Together with its satellites, the preposition forms a prepositional phrase that can be found in various syntactic functions. The paper will deal with the syntactic functions of prepositional phrases with the preposition of the German language an and their equivalents in the Albanian language. This will be done on the basis of a corpus selected from the literary works of German authors translated into Albanian
