THE NOVEL OF BOURGEOIS LITERATURE- VICTORIAN LITERATURE
Suzana IBRAIMI MEMETI
Abstract
The Victorian period was an age of paradoxes. In addition to paradoxes, it was also an era "par excellence" (excellent) of the novel. Queen Victoria's reign was considered an era where the impossible was possible and the opposite. It was also the time when the activity of the scientific spirit was present in every sphere of thought and practice. The novel of this period became a more important literary genre than poetry. Precisely in the field of the novel, the English, during this period have created works that have become part of World Literature. Some of the novelists of this period gained world fame during their lifetime and influenced other literatures.
The poets of this period did not achieve any high fame, although Tennyson and Browning were also popular in Europe, perhaps also because of the authority of Great Britain, which at that time was the first World Power. However, with the novel, things are different: Dickens penetrates Europe within a short time, while Thackeray, George Elliot and some other novelists continued to be translated until the end of the 19th century.
