Abstract
Prof. Dr. Simon Pepa (1936–2002) stands as one of the most prominent and influential scholars in the field of Albanian linguistics, with significant contributions to the enrichment and advancement of Albanological studies. His academic work spans across key areas such as lexicology, dialectology, phonetics, and ethnolinguistics. Through his research, he significantly expanded the understanding of the structure and development of the Albanian language, while also contributing to the documentation of Albania’s cultural and historical heritage. Among his most notable works is the monograph “Agricultural Tradition through the Linguistic Treasury”, which offers a profound analysis of the use of the Albanian language in rural and agricultural life.
This study enriches the Albanian lexicon with important elements of cultural heritage, shedding light on the linguistic representation of traditional practices. In addition, Prof. Pepa made substantial contributions to the study of euphemisms and taboos—an area that has provided valuable insights into how Albanians use language to address socially sensitive and complex topics. His research in this domain has deepened the understanding of the cultural mechanisms underlying linguistic expression. His international engagement, marked by participation in conferences and scholarly symposia, further promoted the visibility of the Albanian language and culture on the global academic stage.
