Xhemile SEJDINI, Feta SINANI

Abstract

The development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been driven by advancements in computing technology and data collection methods. GIS has become a critical tool in transportation planning, enabling planners to store, analyze, and visualize spatial data related to transportation networks, land use patterns, and population distribution. GIS are powerful tool that enable the capture, storage, manipulation, analysis, and presentation of geographic data. In the Republic of North Macedonia, GIS has been successfully applied in various sectors, including traffic engineering. This paper provides an overview of GIS and its components, followed by a discussion of successful GIS projects in Macedonia. The paper then explores how GIS can be better utilized in North Macedonia, including enhancing data quality, expanding GIS use, collaboration and data sharing, capacity building, and public engagement. By leveraging the power of GIS, Macedonia can better address complex challenges and achieve sustainable development.
