Abstract
Thioamides represent the most studied compounds in the field of heterocyclic chemistry, which is due to their application. Substituted thiobenzanilides are characterized by satisfactory activity against Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and against other types of bacteria. The ability of thioamides to react with various reagents has been demonstrated. This work aimed to investigate the oxidation of thiobenzanilide with Jones reagent, which is an acidified solution of CrO3 in acetone. The identification and characterization of the synthesized products was done by determining the melting temperature, elemental analysis, and infrared spectroscopy. The main product during the oxidation of thiobenzanilide (C6H5CSNHC6H5) is benzanlide (C6H5CONHC6H5), regardless of the molar ratio (1:20; 1:35; 1:50) of the thiobenzanilide and aceton. CrO3 is an oxidizing agent that provides a high yield of product (43.2%), and is therefore a suitable reagent for the oxidation of thiobenzanilide.
