Abstract
This paper aims to examine the use of linguistic constructions involving the accusative case in contemporary Albanian and the dialect of the Serbian language spoken in Prizren and Timok, located in the southeastern region of Serbia. This investigation offers a novel perspective on language change and development. Such research is crucial for understanding linguistic diversity and the evolution of language, both of which are influenced by a myriad of social factors. By studying the existing literature on noun phrases in the accusative case in these linguistic varieties and analyzing sentences from diverse sources, we observe a significant degree of equivalence between accusative constructions in the Prizren-Timok Serbian dialect and those in modern Albanian.
We conclude that this similarity stems from the centuries-long coexistence of these communities. As standard language increasingly permeates dialects through various communication channels, this convergence influences the alignment of dialectal features with the norms of the standard language, particularly among younger generations. This paper underscores the importance of such research, demonstrating the dynamic nature of language and its continuous evolution.
