SUBLIME POSTMODERNISM
Afrim REXHEPI
Abstract
Postmodern literary works, in the spirit of the aesthetics of the sublime, imply a disproportion between the artistic work and our (in)ability to display and interpret it; we have nothing to interpret, the postmodern text is a sublime act, it is an event, it simply happens. Such a textual event is also the postmodern parable of Rexhep Qosja, specifically the omnibus novel The Secrets Revealed, a novel distinguished by the poetics of paradox. The poetics of paradox marks the dissolution of meta-narratives. It operates through the play with discourses, the parodic, double-discourse of postmodern intertextuality, the play with fragments, with pieces of the whole, deep and ironic fractures that, according to Roland Barthes, “create the effect of a spark that draws attention .”
