ABOUT THE ORNAMENTAL ELEMETS IN THE MACEDONIA PATRIK FROM SLOEŠTICA

Abstract
The illumination of old manuscripts includes miniatures and ornaments. The miniature, as a work of art, interprets the text with the help of characters, figures, landscapes and symbols. The ornament, on the other hand, consists of flags and initials (letters). Banners are the decorated compositions that are located before the title of the work where the connection with the text is more of a formal and stylistic nature, except in cases where the banner in its composition also contains a title written in letters. The letter is an inevitable element and often the writer tries to use it as a decorative asset, turning it into an ornament. This letter ornament is always in the initial position and according to the size occupies several lines in the text. The liturgical books contain separate readings (the gospel and the apostle) and songs (the psalters, the octoichus, the minae) and the text is always divided into parts, and for that reason the initials appear very often on almost every page, and sometimes several. They differ from other letters in both size and color, and thus draw the reader's attention to the most important parts of the reading in the manuscript. In our paper, we will pay attention to the analysis of the ornamental elements represented in the Macedonian paterik from Sloeštica.
