LANGUAGE CONTACTS AND MIGRATION LINGUISTICS WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON ALBANIAN LANGUAGE IN SWITZERLAND

Abstract

The actual aim of the study is to give a brief overview of linguistic contacts and migration linguistics with a special focus on the Albanian language in German-speaking Switzerland. Furthermore, this paper will address situations of concrete language contacts and the theoretical starting point of conversation analysis. Specifically, it provides us with that “social reality that is constantly constructed in communicative acts and in terms of linguistic and non-linguistic forms, speakers are concentrated in analyzing the situation and context of their actions, interpreting the statements of the interlocutors, determining the appropriateness of the situation, understanding the effectiveness of their statements and coordinating their actions with the actions of the interlocutors” (Bergmann 2001: 919). Since the beginning of the temporary settlement of Albanians in Switzerland, Albanian language is spoken by more than 200,000 speakers according to the Federal Statistical Office. Finally, this paper also aims to highlight the use of Albanian language in Switzerland in the context of linguistic contacts and migration linguistics.
